That time my ergonomic chair literally fell apart mid-zoom call

Last Tuesday I was on a workers' comp case review with Dr. Miller in Bakersfield, leaned back to grab a file, and the whole armrest snapped off. I hit the floor HARD with my laptop still in my lap, and the adjuster on the line just went silent for like ten seconds. Anyone else have office gear fail at the worst possible moment during a claim meeting?

Leaned back to grab a file" - I mean, that part kind of matters here. Most of those mid-range ergonomic chairs aren't really built for leaning way back like that, especially if you're not using the tilt lock. Idk, maybe it's just me, but snapping an armrest off sounds more like user error than a product defect. You probably put a lot of weight on one side while twisting. That said, yeah, hitting the floor with a laptop during a meeting is definitely rough, but it's not like the chair just randomly exploded for no reason. Maybe next time just keep your files within arm's reach instead of testing the limits of budget office furniture.

Honestly I clicked on this post cause I just read this article about how most office chairs are only tested for like half the weight they claim to support. So even if you're not a bigger person, leaning back at a weird angle can totally snap stuff. I mean the user might've made a mistake but the chair probably wasn't gonna hold up to daily use anyway. Those mid-range chairs are basically disposable furniture that looks nice in a catalog but falls apart if you move wrong.
