TIL the QME panel process has a strict 10 day window I almost missed

I was looking through the California Division of Workers' Comp website last week and found out that when you get a QME panel, you only have 10 days from the date on the letter to pick a doctor. I almost let mine sit on the counter for two weeks thinking I had more time. That would have messed up my whole case since my lawyer said they could use that against me. I guess they assume you're stalling if you don't respond fast enough. Has anyone else been caught off guard by that timeline?

Yeah I set a timer on my phone right away lol

Right, so you set a timer on your phone right away. To me that's just admitting you can't trust yourself to remember. I don't use timers for anything like that because I find they just make me anxious watching the clock tick down. If something's actually important I'll remember it without a loud beep telling me to move. Plus, half the time people set a timer and then ignore it anyway when it goes off. Not having a timer forces you to actually pay attention to the task at hand instead of relying on a crutch. Different strokes I guess but I'd rather just own my own schedule without the phone bossing me around.
