Bought a $200 lens collimator kit for my shop and it's been useless

Everyone online said the LaserLens Pro kit was a must-have for fixing focus issues on old SLRs. I got one for a big job on a batch of Pentax K1000s. The thing is so sensitive to vibration and ambient light that I can't get a stable reading in my workspace. Wasted a whole afternoon and went back to my old mirror method. Has anyone actually made one of these work in a normal repair shop setting?

Sounds like a tool problem, not a shop problem.

But how bad can the tools really be? Most shops get by with basic stuff and still do good work. This seems like making a big deal out of nothing.

ok so my buddy works at a shop that had a bunch of cheap wrenches and they kept rounding bolts off left and right. he said it was a nightmare. @parker_park8 is probably right, bad tools make the whole place look bad even if the workers know what theyre doing.
