Heard a guy at the junk shop say shutter speeds are like oven temperatures, and it totally changed how I test old cameras.
He was talking about how a few degrees off doesn't ruin the roast, just like 1/125th at 1/100th still gives you a usable negative, so now I focus more on the mechanical feel getting consistent instead of chasing perfect numbers, anyone else relax their standards a little?

Ha, yeah I've definitely relaxed a lot. My first roll through a newly CLA'd camera I was checking every single frame with a loupe like I was examining a crime scene. Now I'm happy if the shutter sounds like it's trying its best and the film winds on without making that awful grinding noise. My last test roll had two frames where the shutter apparently took a nap mid-exposure, but the other 34 were fine enough. I figure if my photos look like they were taken by someone with a slight tremor, that's just my artistic signature at this point.
