I just counted 47 different cameras with the same shutter ribbon cable fault this year

I keep a log of every repair job, and when I looked back last week, that number jumped out at me. It's all mid-2000s DSLRs from a couple of major brands, models that were really popular back then. The ribbon that connects the shutter button assembly to the main board just wears out and cracks. It used to be a once in a while thing, but now I'm seeing it constantly as these cameras hit a certain age. I had to order a whole new batch of the specific cables because I ran out. It makes sense, I guess, since they're all around 15-20 years old now and that part sees a lot of flex. Has anyone else noticed a big wave of this specific failure lately, or is it just what's coming through my shop?

Huh, I haven't really seen that many come through my bench.

I only had two last month, which is way down from the usual.

Is it maybe a seasonal thing? Like, maybe the types of cases you usually get slow down this time of year. I saw something similar a while back where all the routine stuff just dried up for a few weeks. Could be people are just putting things off, or there's a backlog somewhere else in the system. It's weird when the usual flow just stops.
