I used to press shutter curtains back into place with my fingers, now I use a dedicated jig I built out of old brass stock

After mangling a 1950s Rolleiflex curtain by using bare hands 3 years ago, I switched to a homemade brass jig that cups the curtain tabs exactly, and I haven't scratched a single one since - has anyone else built their own specialty tools instead of buying the overpriced standard kits?

Yeah I hear you @valh32, the trick is I milled a little notch into the brass so I can see the curtain edge through a gap. I use a brass stock with a thin slot cut right in the middle, then I chamfer the edges so it slides under the tab without scratching anything. The whole thing is about the size of a credit card but way thinner.

Man I've been there trying to get a clear view while working on something fiddly. It's always nice when someone shares a trick like that instead of just keeping it to themselves. Sounds like you put some solid time into getting it just right.

Got a photo of the jig? Curious how you cupped the tabs without blocking your view of the curtain edge.
