Picked the $40 helicoil kit over a $180 replacement mount
After snapping a lens mount screw on a Nikon F2 during a 30 minute rush job last Tuesday, I grabbed the cheap repair kit from the drawer instead of waiting for the new part, and the helicoil held perfectly through a full test roll, but now I'm wondering if anyone else trusts thread repair on older brass mounts or do you all just replace the whole thing?

Tried the same thing on an old Canon FD mount a while back, stripped the hole again within two rolls. Still swear by helicoils for anything brass though, they bite better than people give em credit for. You tested yours on a full roll already, that's more than I can say for half my repairs.
