Spent $400 on a used shutter assembly or wait 8 weeks for the part from Japan
Had a guy bring in a Canon AE-1 last month with a shutter that was totally locked up, and I had to pick between a used assembly off eBay for $400 or ordering the real part from a supplier in Osaka with an 8 week wait. I went with the eBay one because the customer needed it for his daughter's wedding in 3 weeks, and of course it showed up with a bent blade that I didn't catch until I had the whole thing torn apart. Wound up swapping blades from his old assembly into the new one, which took 6 hours and way more patience than I had that day. Anyone got a better source for AE-1 shutter parts that won't leave me waiting two months or rolling the dice on eBay junk?
