Switched my opinion on ultrasonic cleaners after a dirty Yashica job
I always thought ultrasonic cleaners were overkill for camera parts, just a waste of bench space. But after dealing with a Yashica 124G that had 20 years of grease caked inside the shutter blades, I finally broke down and got a 40kHz model from Harbor Freight for $45. Ran the blade assembly through with some Ronsonol for three cycles, and it came out spotless with zero residue. Has anyone else converted to ultrasonic after fighting with Q-tips and naphtha for hours?

Oh yeah, same thing happened to me with a moldy old folder camera I picked up at a garage sale. I soaked the lens in lighter fluid for two days and still had haze, finally caved on one of those cheap tanks after Christmas and now I don't know how I got by without it.

Bought my buddy one for his shop after watching him fight with sticky leaf shutters for months... he called me two days later saying it changed his whole workflow.

Honestly, I read somewhere that those cheap HF tanks actually work better for camera parts than the fancy ones because the lower frequency does a better job on thick grease. Your story about the Yashica 124G is exactly what convinced me to finally grab one last month. Now I'm kicking myself for all those hours scraping gunk off old shutters with q-tips.
