Found out my old tent weighs almost 9 pounds after checking the tag
I was packing for a trip to the Red River Gorge and decided to actually look at the specs tag inside my tent bag. The thing is listed at 8.7 pounds, which is way heavier than I thought. I always just threw it in the car without thinking. Now I get why my back was sore after that long hike in last fall. Anyone else been surprised by the actual weight of their gear?

Totally ignored weight for years. Then I weighed my whole pack before a trip and nearly fell over. Completely changed how I shop for gear now.

Wait, how much did your pack actually weigh? I did the same thing last year and mine was almost 40 pounds, it was insane. Honestly I had no idea I was carrying so much junk. Now I'm obsessed with checking the weight of every single item before it goes in my bag.

You know, @vera_campbell, I actually think people get too focused on the scale. A few extra pounds for some comfort items, like a real pillow or a bigger camp chair, makes the whole trip way more enjoyable. My pack is usually around 35 pounds and I've never had a problem covering miles. Obsessing over every ounce just adds stress before you even hit the trail.
