I finally saw why everyone raves about down sleeping bags after a wet night at Lost Lake

I always thought synthetic was the way to go, cheaper and dries faster right? But last month I borrowed my buddy's down bag for a trip up near Lost Lake. Got hit with a surprise storm, bag got a little damp in the tent corner. Next morning I was still warm and the bag was dry again by noon. My old synthetic bag would've been cold and heavy for two days. Has anyone else switched sides after a bad weather test?

That thing you said about "a situation proves them wrong" is exactly it. I was the same way until a wet night showed me down handles moisture way better than I ever believed. Real world testing beats reading forum posts every time.

Three nights on the road with damp synthetic made me switch to down for good.

Figuring out what actually works in real conditions beats believing the specs every time. People get stuck on one way of doing things until a situation proves them wrong, whether it's gear or something else in life. That damp morning taught me more than any review ever could.
