I finally stopped ignoring the guy who told me my tent stakes were too light for windy sites
After losing my tent in a gust at Lake Tahoe last spring and having to chase it half a mile down the beach, I switched to those 12-inch screw stakes and haven't had a blowaway since, has anyone else learned a gear lesson the hard way like that?

What, you don't trust your tent to hold itself down anymore?

Man, @taylor668, I remember having the same thought a few years back during a windy night in the Smokies. My tent poles were bending like they were about to snap, and I just sat there waiting for the whole thing to collapse. What finally worked for me was getting a heavier duty footprint and using some rocks to anchor the corners better. The wind still shook things up, but nothing got ripped out. Sometimes you just gotta trust the gear you tested out first, you know?

Honestly, that Tahoe story is brutal but hilarious in hindsight. Nothing teaches you to respect wind like chasing your whole campsite down the beach.
