Just realized my new $300 sleeping bag is a total waste of money

Took it on a trip to the White Mountains last week and froze my butt off when the temp hit 35 degrees, even though it's rated for 20. The fill just clumped up in the footbox after one night. Has anyone else had this happen with a high-end bag right out of the box?

Did you try washing it with a down-specific cleaner? Sometimes the factory oils make the down clump up like that. A good wash and dry with tennis balls can really bring it back to life. If that doesn't work, the rating might just be pure marketing fluff. I'd contact the company directly and send them pictures of the clumping. A bag that fails at 35 degrees when it's rated for 20 is basically broken.

Yeah, the tennis ball trick really does work... I had to do that with my old sleeping bag and it fluffed right back up.

But what if the down is just bad quality, @the_riley?
