My uncle swore by a $20 tarp for a groundsheet, and I finally tested it in the rain.

He said 'a cheap blue tarp is all you need' under a tent, so I tried it on a wet weekend in the Adirondacks. The water pooled underneath and soaked through the tent floor, making a huge mess. What's a better budget option that actually works?

Heard Tyvek house wrap is a cheap, lightweight groundsheet that doesn't pool water.

Totally works, used it for years! It's super loud at first, so run it through the washing machine once without soap to soften it up. The stuff is tough as nails and really does shed water without holding puddles. Just make sure you get the real Tyvek brand, some of the copycats don't hold up as well.

Wait you have to wash it first? That's wild, never would have thought to do that. Does it really get less noisy after?
