Replaced my old foam pad with a self-inflating one, big difference on rocky ground
After two nights at Horsetooth Reservoir last month I woke up with my hip bruised from the old pad. Picked up a self-inflating model for around $60 and the difference is night and day, no more feeling every pebble under me. Has anyone else made the switch and gone back to foam for weight reasons?

Ha! Give up a good night's sleep to save half a pound? My bruised hip says NO WAY.

Honestly, did you try it on a really bad site yet? I did the same thing last season after a trip where I felt like a human taco shell on a gravel driveway. I kept the foam pad for summer trips when I'm trying to shave weight, but for anything rocky or cold, the self-inflating one stays in my pack. It's worth the extra ounces to not wake up sideways.
