TIL my whole approach to packing a backpack was backwards

I was struggling on a trail near Sedona, constantly stopping to adjust my pack. Another hiker pointed out I had all my heavy stuff at the top, not close to my back. I switched it around and the difference was immediate. What's one basic camping skill you had totally wrong for a long time?

Honestly seems like a minor fix for most casual hikes. Patb12 is right about Sedona, so how bad could the pack have been. People make too big a deal out of gear placement.

I read a gear review that said heavy items should sit right against your spine.

Sedona's trails are pretty forgiving, honestly.
