Tried a zero degree bag on a trip to the White Mountains and it was not enough

Last week, I was up near Mount Washington and the temp dropped to about 15 degrees. I was using a well known brand's zero degree mummy bag, which everyone online says is fine for winter. I was cold all night, even with a good pad and wearing my thermals. The rating on the tag is just for not freezing, not for sleeping well. Has anyone else found they need a bag rated for much colder than the forecast says?

Yeah, I mean, I always grab my old negative 20 bag for anything near freezing now. Got burned like that once and it's just not worth it.

Got burnt on a so called zero degree bag a few years back camping in the Smokies. Woke up at 3am shivering so bad I couldn't even get my boots on properly. Ended up having to do jumping jacks in my tent just to get warm enough to make coffee. That bag cost me a hundred bucks and it was useless below 25 degrees. You think the companies just slap whatever number sounds good on the tag sometimes?

Zero degree bag" ratings are just a starting point, in my experience.
