Watched my $80 lantern flicker out on a cold night
I splurged on a high lumen propane lantern for a trip up near Big Bear last fall, figured it would handle the wind better than my old battery lights. First big gust came through and the mantle just crumbled, left me cooking dinner by headlamp at 35 degrees. Anyone found a lantern that actually holds up when the weather turns rough?

Wait did you really torch your eyebrow off? I almost did the same thing last winter with one of those fancy tall glass ones, thought I cleared the gas but nope, big fireball to the face. Totally feel you @cameron538, those cheap Coleman dual fuels are the way, I just keep a spare mantle in my jacket pocket now.

Nah, @terrybennett, those glass lanterns work fine if you read the manual.

...and then I tried to relight it, guess I didn't let the gas clear enough, singed half my eyebrow off. Thing was a piece of junk anyway. I just use those cheap coleman dual fuel ones now, they'll blow out in a real bad gust but you can just relight em. At least you don't lose a $80 lantern.
