Am I the only one whose apology video got more views than the original post and somehow made it worse?

I posted a dumb joke on X 5 months ago, got about 40 angry quotes, then made a 2 minute apology video that hit 300k views and dug me a deeper hole. At this point I can't tell if apologizing is even the right move or if I should've just stayed quiet, so what did you all do when the response to your response was worse than the start?
