Appreciation post: My local comedy club's lineup went from edgy to safe in under a year

I go to The Laugh Track in Columbus every month. For years, the comics would push boundaries. Talk about real stuff. Politics, religion, the whole deal. Then about 8 months ago, it changed. The headliner made a joke about a local politician. Not even that harsh. Got a few boos. Next month, he wasn't on the schedule. Now every set feels sanitized. Like they're reading from a list of approved topics. Sports, dating, airplane food. It's boring. You can feel the fear in the room. The owner told me 'we can't afford the heat anymore.' So we get the same safe jokes every week. Has anyone else seen a local scene get gutted like this?

Maybe they just got funnier.

Honestly, it could be a tone thing. Like, maybe the jokes feel forced now so they land weird. Just doesn't hit the same.

Yeah, sounds like they're workshopping material for a future in-flight safety video. Guess @oscarb77's idea of 'funnier' is just not making anyone think.
