Got canceled by a knitting group for using acrylic yarn - found a loophole

I started bringing a tiny swatch of expensive cashmere to every meeting and suddenly they stopped caring about my acrylic projects, has anyone else found a weird workaround in a hobby community?

Three years ago I would've rolled my eyes at a group policing yarn types, but then my local stitch club had a whole debate about acrylic versus wool. Seeing how much it actually mattered to some of those ladies made me realize there's more to it than just snobbery. It's still a weird loophole bringing cashmere though, I gotta admit that's clever.

So you think it's more about respect for the craft than actual material quality? I've seen that play out in my own circles where people get defensive over their favorite brands. Did the debate change your own buying habits, or are you still Team Acrylic when it counts?
