Got unfriended by a high school buddy over a meme I shared

Last week I posted a meme joking about pineapple on pizza in a group chat from 2012, and this guy I used to play soccer with went off on me for being 'divisive' and blocked me. I mean, it was just a food joke, not a political rant. Has anyone else lost a friend over something this dumb?

Man, I had a similar thing happen with a guy I knew from summer camp. I shared a picture of a cat sitting on a stack of pancakes with the caption "breakfast goals" and he messaged me saying it was offensive because he was allergic to cats. I tried to explain it was just a silly cat picture, not a personal attack, but he blocked me on everything. People get really weird about tone online, I guess. Take it with a grain of salt, sometimes old friends just turn out to be not that great at communicating.

You know, I used to be the guy who said "it's just the internet, don't take things so personally" but then a buddy from the station got mad at me over a joke I made about his cooking. He went totally silent for two weeks over a stupid meme. That's exactly what you're talking about, @faithwalker. Sometimes you just can't win no matter how you try to explain yourself. People bring all their own baggage into every little message they read.
