Hot take: I saw a local bookstore in Asheville pull a whole author's section after one online complaint

The town near me canceled a whole book fair because three people complained about a single coloring book. I guess my opinions are the same as those complaints, since nobody asked for them either. Maybe we should all just agree to keep our loudest thoughts to ourselves, right?

This idea of pulling a whole section after one complaint feels familiar. It's like when a school removes a classic book from the library because a single parent objects. We're letting the loudest voice in the room make decisions for everyone. It shuts down the chance for real talk and makes our shared spaces smaller. I miss when places could stand by offering a range of ideas, even difficult ones.

Exactly what @the_nina said. It happens all the time now. My local coffee shop took down some art because one person called it weird. Now the walls are just blank. That single complaint killed the vibe for everyone. It feels like we're scared of anything that might make someone think for a second. Where does it stop?
