Lol, I just flipped my view on cancel culture after a podcast deep dive

I always thought calling people out online was just how we fix things now. But hearing a host talk about how it stops real talks and just makes people scared changed my mind. Are we shutting down conversation instead of helping folks learn from their mess ups?

Maybe @gavinm94 is right that letting things slide never fixed anything, but I still worry we're just scaring people into silence.

You said it stops real talks, but sometimes talking is the problem. If someone keeps saying harmful stuff, why do they deserve more airtime? The fear you mentioned is just people facing real world results for what they say. It’s not about being scared to talk, it’s about being smart enough to not say garbage. This is how regular folks get to hold powerful people accountable. Without it, bad behavior just gets ignored. Letting things slide never fixed anything.

Heard a podcast guest say cancel culture often misses the mark and targets mid-level people while the real problematic power players skate by. Makes you wonder who actually gets held to account.
