My buddy's cancel culture advice backfired hard on Facebook

This guy I knew from high school told me to just delete any angry comment and block the person. Ngl I followed his advice for like 3 days on a post about local politics. Turns out ignoring people made them post screenshots of our old comments and tag a bunch of local news pages. Honestly that move made things way worse than just talking it out would have. Has anyone else had a friend's "strategy" blow up in their face like that?

Talking it out" lol that's optimistic, ignoring people just made my old coworker's drama go viral in our town group page.

Honestly, I get why you'd say that, especially if you've seen drama blow up like that firsthand. But tbh, ignoring stuff isn't always the wrong call. Sometimes people just need to let things cool off before they talk, otherwise it's just more fuel on the fire. Ngl, your coworker's situation sounds like a mess, but I've seen plenty of times where stepping back actually keeps things from getting worse, just depends on the people involved.

Why did they think ignoring it would make it go away?
