Warning: overheard a kid saying his teacher got cancelled for a joke

I was at the DMV in Tucson yesterday, and two teenagers behind me were talking about their substitute teacher. Apparently he made some sarcastic comment about homework being useless, and a parent recorded it and posted it online. The school put him on leave in 48 hours. The kid said nobody even thought it was offensive, but the parent wanted attention. That got me thinking about how fast things move now, one recording and your whole paycheck is gone before you can explain yourself. Does anyone else feel like there's no room for a dumb mistake anymore? Has anyone you know gotten caught up in something like this where the context got lost?
