Watched a local bakery owner get canceled over a 10 year old tweet
This guy's shop was the go-to spot in my town for 8 years, then someone dug up a dumb joke he posted back in 2014 and suddenly half the neighborhood was boycotting him. Has anyone seen someone small come back from that kind of thing?

...and my buddy who ran a small BBQ joint had the SAME thing happen. Dig up a stupid tweet from 2012, next thing you know his weekend sales dropped like a rock and he ended up closing six months later.

Exactly what @kim191 said is pretty common. Best advice I can give is get ahead of it fast, apologize once without making excuses, then let your actions and loyal customers do the talking. I've seen a couple places survive by laying low and focusing on their regulars instead of feeding the outrage cycle.
