I thought the banned 'Cow and Chicken' episode was fake internet hype, then my cousin pulled out a 1998 VHS
My cousin in Reno kept telling me about this pulled episode of Cow and Chicken where the devil character was supposedly too scary for kids. I figured it was just people making stuff up online, you know how that goes. Last weekend he dug out a VHS he taped off Cartoon Network back in 1998, and there it was, the 'Buffalo Gals' episode, banned after like 3 airings. I watched the whole thing and yeah, the biker chick stuff was way more obvious than I expected. Now I'm wondering how many other 'banned episode' stories are actually real and just sitting on somebody's old tape. Has anyone here actually found a copy of the Dexter's Lab 'Rude Removal' short, or is that one still lost?
Wow, that is a huge deal because most of those "banned episode" tales fall apart the second you look into them, but the fact that Buffalo Gals actually aired means the bar for what got pulled was way lower than people assume. Here is the thing nobody talks about though, a lot of these episodes were not banned by the network at all, they were pulled because of music rights or some legal thing, and fans just slapped the "banned" label on them later to make it sound cooler. Rude Removal is a different animal since it was only shown at a convention and never aired on TV, so there was never a broadcast tape to begin with, which is why it stayed lost for so long. That means your cousin's VHS is way more rare than any of the creepypasta stuff people pass around online, because it proves the episode existed on air and somebody actually caught it. The real hunt should be for fan recordings of stuff that got pulled after a few airings, not the never aired shorts, since those at least had a chance to end up on a tape like yours.
