A client in Tacoma asked me to keep the old, stained pad under her new carpet

She said her dog was used to the smell and would get confused if it was gone. We ended up putting the new carpet right over a pad that had clearly seen better days. Has anyone else had a request that made you pause on a job?

Man, that's nothing. Once had a guy insist we install his new vinyl plank flooring over a layer of old, crumbling asbestos tile. Said he didn't want to pay for removal and it was "fine where it was." We had to walk away from that one, no way was I getting involved. Some requests just cross a line from quirky to downright dangerous.

Seems a bit over the top to me. Asbestos is only dangerous if you're sanding it or breaking it up, right? Laying new floor over it should seal it in place.

My crew in Spokane sealed asbestos tile with two coats of oil-based primer before the new floor.
