Had a job at a church gym last week that taught me about seams the hard way
I was installing carpet in this old church gymnasium in Bakersfield, about 2,000 square feet of heavy traffic Berber. Got cocky with my seam placement, put one right where the basketball key would be. Pastor called me out on it during the walkthrough, said 'the kids will catch a toe on that by Wednesday'. Had to pull up a whole 12 foot section and redo it with a seam closer to the wall. You guys ever mess up a seam bad enough you had to eat the cost on extra material?

Yeah I actually read somewhere that gym floors especially are brutal on seams because of all the pivoting and running. Seems like the pastor knew what he was talking about with that Wednesday prediction. Idk about you but I always try to double check my seam placement now after hearing stories like this.

Messed up a gym seam once myself. Total nightmare.

That "brutal on seams" part really stuck with me, do you think certain types of gym flooring are worse than others for that kind of wear? Like, is it more about the material or just the way people move on it? I've always wondered if it's the same for all sports floors or just basketball and volleyball types.
