Hot take: Carpet seams in doorways are NOT supposed to be hidden

I was at a tile and carpet convention in Nashville last month and this old timer installer named Bob pulled me aside. He told me that the industry standard is actually to have seams run directly under the closed door, not try to hide them on the side. Found out he was right when I checked the CRI installation guidelines online that night. Has anyone else been taught the opposite way their whole career like I was?

Ran into the same thing a few years back when I was working with a guy who'd been laying carpet since the 70s. He showed me right under the door is where the seam belongs because the door covers it and you don't get that weird lump people trip over. Tried it on my next few jobs and honestly never went back to trying to hide them off to the side. Now I just tell customers straight up that's how the pros do it and nobody has complained yet.
