Just hit 500 sq ft of carpet removed without a single tack strip injury
I've been installing for about 6 years now and always joked that getting stabbed by tack strips was just part of the job. Last week I finished a full basement tear-out in Dayton and realized I'd removed 500+ sq ft without one slice or poke. What convinced me to change was switching to a flat pry bar with a rubber grip and taking 10 extra seconds to sweep the old padding before pulling strips. I stopped rushing and started using a scrap piece of plywood to press down on the strip while prying. Has anyone else kept a running tally of days without tack strip cuts, or am I just weird about it?
