Knee kicker slipped on a wet tack strip in Tampa yesterday
Was doing a bedroom in a house near the airport, had just rolled out the pad. I leaned into the knee kicker and the damn tack strip had water under it from a leak the homeowner didn't mention. Kicker shot forward, I punched a hole through the wall with my knee. Had to cut out a 2x2 foot section of drywall and patch it before I could finish the carpet. Anyone else dealt with hidden moisture ruining a tack strip install?

That vapor shield idea sounds good in theory but what about the tack strip itself? Did you pull the tack strip and set it aside, then put the vapor barrier down, then re-nail the strip? Seems like a lot of extra work for a bedroom. I'm curious if you just put the shield under the pad only and left the tack strip on the bare concrete. That would still trap moisture under the wood strip.

Three times last year in Phoenix. Had one where the water was coming up from the slab, completely soaked the tack strip foam.

Did you try pulling the tack strip and putting down a moisture barrier first? @west.anna that slab leak situation sounds rough, I started using a plastic vapor shield under the pad in anything near bathrooms or laundry rooms after my Tampa mess.
