Pro tip: I saw a guy in Boise use a chalk line for carpet seams and it blew my mind

I was helping a buddy on a big commercial job at a hotel there, and the lead installer snapped a chalk line before cutting the seam. He said it keeps the cut perfectly straight every single time, even on long runs. How many of you actually use a chalk line for that?

That "blew my mind" part is real. I tried it once on a small patch in my living room and my line looked like a toddler's crayon drawing of a seismograph. I'm pretty sure I got more chalk on my face than the carpet. Let's just say I stick to marking with a straight edge now. Some skills are best left to the pros.

Reminds me of trying to spray paint a simple stripe on a curb. Ended up with a fuzzy, drippy mess that looked like a caterpillar had a seizure. The overspray coated my neighbor's lawn gnome in a fine blue mist. I spent more on paint stripper than I did on the paint. Some jobs really do need the right tools and a steady hand.

Ever try the frog tape trick? I saw it online and gave it a shot on my own curb project. You put down the tape, then paint over the edge with clear caulk or even the base color first. It seals the tape line so the new paint can't bleed under. My lines came out super sharp, no fuzzy edges at all. Total game changer for a steady hand imposter like me.
