Rolled 200 yards of carpet wrong way last month and learned a painful lesson

Rolling 200 yards the wrong way? Sounds like you did it exactly right. If you roll carpet against the grain it actually lays flatter over time, I've seen it happen on three separate jobs. The "right way" is just old-timer superstition, same as not cutting on a full moon.

Oh man, I feel for you. It's rough when you put in the work and then hear the "well actually" crowd come out of nowhere. I've been there myself with stuff around the house, followed the manual to the letter only to have some relative tell me I did it all wrong while it turned out perfectly fine in the end. Carpet laying is one of those things where people get real stuck in their ways, but if it's laying flat and staying put, that's what counts.

Wait, is that a real thing about the full moon? Because that would explain a lot about my dad's weird rules for home projects! But yeah, I totally agree, I rolled carpet "backwards" in my spare room two years ago and it's still laying perfectly flat with zero ripples.
