Showerthought: I read a comment online about how nobody wants carpet anymore, but my schedule's booked solid for the next two months.
It was on some home design forum, this person said 'carpet is dead, it's all LVP now.' Made me laugh because I'm installing new carpet in three houses this week alone. Sure, hard surface is big, but there's still a huge demand, especially in bedrooms and basements. Maybe it's just my area? Are you guys seeing less carpet work, or is it still steady where you are?

Three houses in a week? That's wild for "dead" carpet.

Yeah, the "dead" carpet thing is a bit off, Paige. It's usually not the fibers that are gone. It's years of ground-in dirt and old, worn-out padding making it feel flat and hard. A good deep clean can pull out a shocking amount of grime and bring back a lot of the texture. I've seen brown carpets turn back to beige after a cleaning. It just looks and feels dead because it's so dirty.

But seriously, three houses? What are people doing to their carpets? I feel like tarag28 has it right, it's probably just filthy. I've pulled up corners before and the actual carpet under a chair or something is still soft and springy. The rest is just packed down with dirt and sand from kids and pets. It feels dead because it's full of a decade of ground-in mess, not because the carpet itself gave up.
