That time a power stretcher almost cost me my hand in Phoenix

I was doing a 300 square yard stretch in a rental down in Phoenix last month and my knee kicker slipped on a seam, sending my hand right into the stretcher head. Took three stitches above my knuckle and now I keep a 2x4 scrap under my knee every single time I lock in. Has anyone switched over to the pole stretcher for smaller rooms just to cut down on that kick risk?
