The hallway stretch trick I learned in a 1950s house

I was ripping out old carpet in a house built in 1954 near Columbus and noticed every hallway seam was cut at a 45 degree angle, not straight across. Turns out the old timers did that so the seam wouldn't run parallel to the door jamb and show wear lines. Has anyone else run into this on older homes, or did I just miss a class on this?

That 45 degree cut is the kind of thing you only notice after you've torn something apart. Did you trace whether the seams line up with the studs behind them, or are they just floating between the door jambs? I've seen houses from that era where the cuts match the framing exactly, and others where it's purely cosmetic, and I'm curious which camp your place falls in.
