The week I had to put down 800 square feet of that super dense commercial loop pile

It was for a big office space in Springfield, and the backing was so stiff my knee kicker felt useless. I ended up using my power stretcher on almost every single piece, which added like two hours to the job. My helper said his arms were sore for three days after all that cranking. Has anyone found a better tool for that kind of carpet, or is it just a grind?

Honestly, I never even pull out the knee kicker for that stuff anymore, it's just a waste of time. A power stretcher is the only way to get it tight without killing your hands. The real trick is using a carpet tucker with a good solid metal blade to set it into the tack strip, that stiff backing needs some force. Yeah, it's a grind, but trying to shortcut it just leads to callbacks.

My buddy Jake in Dayton tried that kicker method like Terry_Wood51 and his whole hallway buckled in a month.

Forget the power stretcher, that's overkill and slows you down. A good knee kicker with fresh teeth and a solid swing gets that stiff backing to bite just fine. I've done hundreds of yards of that stuff with just my kicker and a heavy mallet, never had a callback. You're just adding extra steps and making your helper sore for no reason.
