TIL the $12 magnet strip for tack strips is not a scam, saved my knuckles on 3 jobs
I laughed at my supply guy in Dallas when he pushed a magnetic holder for tack strip nails. Figured it was another $12 gadget for guys who watch too many tool videos. Then I nicked my thumb twice on the same Tuesday, said fine, and grabbed one. Turns out you slap the strip down next to your line and the nails stick to it instead of rolling under the pad or into your knee. Cut my grab time down by maybe 10 minutes a room on the last 3 installs. Anyone else using one, or do you just keep a coffee can and hope for the best?
My grandpa had this coffee can full of bent nails he'd shake out onto a rag every single time, and he swore it worked better than anything. Same thing with those cheap plastic miter boxes and the fancy ones, the pattern is always the same, we laugh at the simple stuff til it saves us an hour. A $12 strip that keeps nails off your knees is just the tape measure of tack work, boring but you never go back once you try it. Funny how the tools that look dumb on a shelf end up being the ones you reach for every day.
