Watching my dog sleep on the new carpet made me rethink padding choices

My dog always finds the softest spot to nap on the carpet I just laid... It made me think that higher density padding might not always be best for comfort in living areas. How do you handle padding picks for homes with pets?

Remember my cat somehow got mud all over our new leather chair last week. Took ages to clean and now he just sleeps on it like he owns the place.

Actually read something about this once, how cats will mess up a new thing on purpose. It's like they're putting their scent on it to claim it as theirs. So the mud was probably his way of saying the chair is his now. Makes sense he'd just sleep on it after all that work. Kind of funny when you think about it, but still super annoying to clean up.
