My $12 toaster died mid grilled cheese and I ended up making the best one of my life on the stove
Last Tuesday my $12 toaster from the corner store finally gave out on me. It sparked, popped, and that was it. I had two slices of bread and a hunk of cheddar already sitting there, so I just threw a pan on the stove with a little butter and made it the old way. It came out way crispier than the toaster ever did, and I realized I had been using that thing wrong for a whole year. Anyone else got a kitchen gadget that died and actually made things better once it was gone?
Bought one of those cheap electric can openers a while back because I hated cranking the manual one. It jammed on a can of beans one night and I said forget it, grabbed the old hand crank from the drawer, and had the can open in like four seconds. Turns out the manual one was faster the whole time and I just never gave it a fair shot. The electric one sat in a cabinet for two years taking up space before I finally tossed it. Funny how we buy stuff to save effort and it just adds steps.
