I quit buying frozen burritos at $4.50 a bag and started making my own for 60 cents each
Two months ago I was blowing $18 a week on frozen burritos at the grocery store in Spokane because I told myself cooking after my mail route was too much work. Then I actually did the math: a bag of 8 was $4.50, so that's 56 cents a burrito, but I was eating 3 at a time so it was really $1.70 a meal and I was still hungry. Now I spend $9 on a Sunday for a pack of tortillas, a can of beans, rice, and a block of cheese and I get 15 burritos that actually fill me up. I wrap them in foil, freeze them, and they heat up in 2 minutes flat. Why did I convince myself for so long that frozen food was the cheap option?
Man, my buddy Dale did the exact same thing. He was dropping like $25 a week at the Safeway on those little microwave burritos, the ones that are mostly tortilla and sadness. His wife finally sat him down and showed him he could make a whole tray of them for what he spent in two days. He grumbled about it for a month, then tried it one Sunday and now he wont shut up about it. Says the homemade ones actually keep him full till lunch instead of him hunting for snacks by 10am. Wild how our brains just decide something is cheaper without ever checking.
