Hot take: my $8 thrift store crockpot broke mid chili cookoff and the fix was weirder than the pot
I bought a $8 crockpot at the Goodwill on 3rd Street in Columbus last month and it died 40 minutes into a chili cookoff against my neighbor's $90 Instant Pot, so I wrapped the ceramic insert in two beach towels like my grandma used to do. It actually worked, the chili stayed hot for the whole 2 hour party and I tied for second place, but now I'm wondering what other cheap kitchen stuff I'm sleeping on. Has anyone else rigged up a dumb fix that somehow beat the fancy version?
Two beach towels around a ceramic insert, that is some MacGyver level stuff right there. I honestly would have bet money the chili went cold and you got last place. Tying for second with an $8 pot against a $90 Instant Pot is wild.
