My neighbor caught me using his Netflix and handed me a $2 yard sale DVD instead
Last Saturday my neighbor Gary knocked on my door while I was three episodes deep into his Netflix account, and instead of getting mad he just handed me a scratched up DVD of The Sandlot he got for $2 at an estate sale down the street. He said the password sharing crackdown was coming anyway and that a $2 disc from a garage sale beats a $15 monthly bill every time. So now I am wondering, what is the best thing you have ever scored secondhand for under five bucks that actually replaced something you were paying for?
Scored a bread maker at a church rummage sale for three bucks about two years ago and it totally killed my $6 a month habit of buying sandwich bread at the store. Thing looked like it survived the 90s but I wiped it down, ran one test loaf, and it has been cranking ever since. Gary is right about the math too, one good yard sale find and you are ahead for months. My wife made fun of me carrying it to the car until she smelled fresh bread at 7am. Now she wants me to go back and look for a rice cooker.
