My neighbor swore a $3 deck of cards could replace date night, and I owe him an apology
My neighbor Gary, who is 71 and retired, caught me complaining about how much my wife and I drop on dinners and movies each weekend and said we should just play two-handed pinochle at home instead. I laughed it off for about a week, but we finally tried it last Friday with a $3 deck from the dollar store and ended up playing until 1am, way past our usual bedtime. Is there a better two-person card game out there, or should we just stick with what Gary says?
Take it further and make it a weekly thing with snacks and everything. My wife and I do a cribbage night on Thursdays with cheap wine and a frozen pizza and it honestly beats any restaurant we used to go to. The best part is you can trash talk each other way more than you would in public, and nobody cares when you get loud. Once you learn one game well, add a second one for variety, like gin rummy or crazy eights when pinochle starts feeling too serious. Gary basically handed you a free date night, so maybe bring him a six pack as a thank you lol.
