Picnic at the reservoir turned into a free 5-hour game night

Last Saturday my buddy Jake and I were flat broke after paying rent, so we grabbed a $6 blanket from the dollar store and headed to Cherry Creek Reservoir with some leftover sandwiches. We ended up spotting a group playing giant Jenga with cardboard boxes they'd stacked themselves, and they waved us over to join. For the next five hours we played that, plus a homemade version of cornhole using old socks and a trash can lid. Someone even pulled out a speaker and we did a free dance-off that had total strangers cracking up. It honestly beat any paid event I've been to in months. Has anyone else turned a random park day into something awesome without spending more than a few bucks?
