Rant: I tried that $5 movie pass hack and ended up spending $40 on snacks
So last weekend I finally tried that trick where you sign up for a free trial of a movie theater membership to get a cheap ticket. The ticket itself was only $5, which sounded great. But when I got to the theater in Austin, the popcorn and a drink cost me $18, and I felt like I had to buy them because the whole point was to have a fun night out. Then my friend wanted to try those fancy reclining seats, which were an extra $5 each. By the time I paid for parking downtown, which was $12, I was out almost $40. I thought I was being smart, but I ended up spending way more than if I had just stayed home and streamed something. Next time, I'm just going to a matinee and sneaking in my own snacks. Has anyone else had a cheap hack backfire like this?
