The $3 ice cream scoop that ruined our 'free' picnic... sort of

Last Saturday I planned this whole free date down by the river in Austin, packed a blanket and some cheap wine. Midway through, I bought a $3 scoop from the dollar store to make it feel fancy, and the handle snapped clean off on the first scoop of store brand vanilla. We ended up laughing so hard we dropped the whole carton in the grass, then spent the next hour just skipping stones and watching a guy try to fly a kite with no wind. Honestly, that broken scoop was the best $3 I've spent all year... anyone else ever had a cheap fail turn into the actual fun part?
