The free art walk in Portland changed my mind about gallery snobbery

I used to think art galleries were boring unless you could drop $500 on a piece, but last month I wandered into the First Thursday gallery walk on NW 13th. There were like 15 open studios with free snacks and the artists just talked to you about their process, no pressure to buy anything. A ceramicist showed me how she makes mugs for $12 at the flea market, and now I get why handmade stuff costs more. I spent zero dollars and left with a bigger appreciation for looking at weird shapes and colors. Anyone else found a free event that flipped their opinion on something they previously hated?
